Position Overview

The position is for a full-time Armed Security Officer or Unarmed Special Conservator of the Peace (SCOP). If you are a licensed Unarmed Security Officer with the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS), or have prior Law Enforcement, military, or Corrections Officer experience, with a minimum of two years of security experience or equivalent, we will provide the required training for this position. The position rotates with three 12-hour shifts during week one and four 12-hour shifts during week two, working either 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. or 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

The main office and dispatch center are located in Wytheville, Virginia. The applicant will operate out of the Amherst, Virginia and surrounding area. The Officer will be dispatched to take custody of individuals under Temporary Detention Orders (TDOs) from Law Enforcement Officers and maintain custody of the individual while being assessed, until an available in-patient bed is located and transport is necessary, or the individual is discharged.

Additional Job Requirements

• Effective reading, writing, and communication skills
• Must have reliable transportation to and from the site
• Valid state motor vehicle operator's license required
• Clean driving record required
• Ability to pass a criminal background investigation
• Ability to pass random drug screening
• Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) registration as an Armed Security Officer or Unarmed Special Conservator of the Peace; Armed Security and Unarmed Special Conservator of the Peace training will be provided if needed
• Must have a minimum of two years of security or equivalent experience
• Crisis Intervention Training (CIT) preferred, but training will be provided
• Prior experience in law enforcement, military service, or security roles is preferred
• Certification in first aid and CPR is highly desirable; training will be provided if not already certified
• Knowledge of surveillance systems (CCTV) and security equipment is a plus
• Strong conflict management skills with the ability to remain calm under pressure
• Licensed Unarmed Security Officer with Virginia DCJS, OR prior Law Enforcement, military, or Corrections Officer experience
• High school or equivalent (Required)

Schedule

• Full-time position
• 12-hour shifts
• Week 1: Three 12-hour shifts
• Week 2: Four 12-hour shifts
• Shift times: 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. or 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
• Expected hours: No less than 40 per week
